Community awards recognise the valuable contribution that members of the community make towards to making Westland a great place to live, work and play.

Triennial local elections of members of local authorities are held once every three years.

Funding can also be sourced from a number of groups including West Coast Community Trust, Creative New Zealand Grant, Rural Communities Trust, and more.

Elderly housing is owned and managed by Westland District Council's CCO, Destination Westland. The portfolio was transferred to their ownership in July 2021, following consultation on the Long Term Plan 2021 - 2031.

Council conducts citizenship ceremonies on behalf of the Department of Internal Affairs for the presentation of citizenship.
