Join our dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated Planning team as the Senior Planner or Planning Team Leader.

Based in Hokitika on the South Island’s beautiful West Coast, surrounded by the natural beauty of mountains, with the river and lakes nearby, this is an opportunity to be part of and contribute to a growing vibrant community. 

This permanent, full-time position offers a broad range of work within a small team from policy to resource consent processing and vetting, while supporting the small passionate team.  The potential for flexible work arrangements will ensure you have the ability to enjoy a true work/life balance.

You will be a confident communicator, willing to build on successful relationships with community stakeholders.  An ability to use initiative and be resolution/solution focused and manage workloads is vital to this role and will enable you to take ownership of projects, involving exposure to a variety of work. 

You will have a professional and practical manner, previous Resource Management Act experience and a minimum of five years in practice within the planning field. The title of this role will be based on level of experience.

Due to the departure of a valued team member, we are looking for a person to support the business administration and back-office services of the Council. This involves supporting the Executive Office with various duties including filing, stocktaking, setting up Council Chambers, vehicle cleaning and general office support duties.

We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running.

Permanent - Full-time

The Westland Building Council Authority (BCA) is seeking an enthusiastic experienced Building Control Officer to perform a range of tasks relating to building-related BCA and Territorial Authority (TA) functions. This will primarily involve processing building consent applications, Certificates of Acceptance, Project Information Memorandums and Exemptions and TA related activities.

You will ideally have 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role with R1-3 and C1-2 competency and hold an appropriate qualification recognised in Regulation 18 of the Building Regulations 2006 Act. A high level working knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations and Building Code is essential. You will also maintain excellent customer service and stakeholder relationships.

We are seeking an enthusiastic person with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, preferably with a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, bylaws and able to learn and follow policies. You will have high levels of computer literacy especially with the relevant programmes/software, and problem-solving abilities. You will be a great team player as we have a super team environment.

We have a great opportunity for a person ready to take the first steps as a planner, within a role that provides a supportive environment and a chance to experience a true work/life balance on the beautiful West Coast.

The graduate planner role is a permanent full-time position which offers a variety of work within a small team, including processing consent applications, completing planning checks on building consent applications, and providing advice to the public. This role is an ideal way to develop and grow within the planning profession.

If you have a tertiary qualification in planning, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail and the ability to manage time and prioritise workloads, this position is for you. You’ll receive ongoing training from our small, experienced team in a supportive environment.
